• All entrants are required to register for the competition prior to submitting their entry using the online registration form available on the website. Only one entry per registration will be accepted. Entrants who wish to submit more than one project must register for each scheme they intend to enter.

registration period starting on August 18th, 2008
  • The preferred method of payment is by credit or debit card via our secure online system.
  • If it is necessary to submit payment by other means, only a cashier’s check, money order or international money order will be accepted.
  • Send a copy of the printed registration form together with a copy of your payment or actual payment to:

    Registration will be complete upon receipt of payment.
  • Registration will be confirmed by email upon receipt of payment. At that time, entrants will receive an Identification Number.
  • All payments are final. Refunds will not be offered to registered entrants who do not submit an entry.
  • All entries must be received at P.O. Box 2556 Roanoke, Virginia 24010, no later than 5:00 pm on October 31st, 2008.

NOTE: This is not a postmark deadline; the actual competition entry must be delivered to the address above by the stated date and time. Submissions received after 5:00pm on October 31st, 2008 will be considered late and will be disqualified from the competition. Entrants are advised to keep precise records of any express mail or delivery service arrangements.

  • Professional Submissions:
    • Printed copy of registration form with name(s) and contact information must accompany entry.
  • Student Submissions:
    • Printed copy of registration form with name(s) and contact information must accompany entry.
    • Copy of valid student identification must also be submitted by student entrants.
  • Identification Number:
    • Each registered entry will receive an Identification Number upon completion of the registration process.
    • The number must be located on the lower left hand corner of the Display Board in a sans-serif type font with a half-inch (1cm) cap height
  • 1-24 x 36-inch Display Board (See Display Board Requirements below)
  • 1- CD containing PC-compatible files of the Display Board, Written Statement, and all digital files used to create Display Board. (See CD for further details)
  • Copy of registration form, 8.5 x 11-inch color proof of the Display Board, and CD should be placed on the the back of the Display Board in a 9 x 12-inch (A4) envelope.
  • A CD containing digital files of the Display Boards must accompany all submissions.
  • Clearly label the CD with your Identification Number.
  • The PC-compatible contents must be organized as follows:
    • Display Board in PDF format (no larger than 50MB per Display Board)
    • Written statement in .doc or PDF format, as a separate file
    • All images used in creating Display Board in .jpeg format
  • All entrants are required to submit entry on one 24 x 36-inch mounted board (lightweight foam core board preferred) with the 36 inch side oriented vertically (portrait format).
  • English written statement (no more than 250 words) clarifying the design concept integrated into the overall composition of the presentation. Type must be a minimum of 14 points size.
  • Any drawings, diagrams, images or photographs illustrating how the design concept addresses the program initiatives and achieves the objectives of the competition.
  • Identification Number assigned at registration clearly located on the lower left hand corner of each board.

ANONYMITY
  • Display Boards shall have no means of identifying the entrant other than the Identification Number assigned at registration
  • An envelope containing a copy of the submission form should be attached to the back of the board, which will be removed prior to judging.
  • The Identification Number will be the submission’s sole form of identification during the jury process
  • Revealing, directly or indirectly, the identity of any design prior to the announcement of the results of the competition is strictly prohibited. Participants communication with any member of the jury or the YAF Competition Committee Member is prohibited as it relates to participants competition entry. No design for this competition shall be published until after the results of the competition have been announced.

  • The contact person will be notified by e-mail of an entry that is disqualified.
  • All entries will be property of the Virginia AIA Blue Ridge Chapter for a period of six months following presentation of awards.
  • During this time, the boards will be put on display at various locations in the Roanoke region.
  • After the six month period, boards shall be available for pick-up for an extended period of time.
  • Materials remaining after the determined date will be removed and disposed of.
