Q: May I exceed the boundaries of a focus area?
A: Yes, provided at least part of your solution and proposal is contained within at least one of the focus areas.
Q: I would like to know how the projects will be judged and divided, or IF they will be divided.
A: There will be at least one winner in the student category and one in the professional category. However, any further separation of the prize is up to the discretion of the jury panel
Q: I was wondering if you have had a chance to post the video of the site visit from this last weekend?
A: The video will be posted by October 10th at the latest.
Q: We had a member of our team withdraw. Can we substitute in a new team member under the same fee?
A: Yes. You can substitute a member as long as you notify us about it and you send a revised registration. If the names in the submission don’t match the ones on the registration, the entry will be disqualified.
Q: Could you please elaborate on what the expectations are for Option #3 - urban planning.
A: Option 3 gives you the opportunity to emphasize more on policy proposal and less on the design aspect. However, the expectations for this option and very similar to Option 2, Urban Design
Q: Is there any information regarding buildings that are slated for demolition, vacant buildings, or plans that are already being implemented?

A: Yes. The lines are still active

Q: Are submissions solely electronic accepted?
A: Please refer to the Rules and Regulations for the submission requirements. Submissions need to be in a 24X36 board as well as a CD
Q: For the submission format, do all entries need to be on only one 24x36 inch board?
A: Yes, only one board per registration number.
Q: Will we have access to the high-resolution images and images of the master plan?

Q: What are Norfolk Southern’s intentions for the Crossing?

Q: What were the functions of the buildings in the Crossing (between Riverside and the train tracks)?
A: There is a flourmill and a scrap yard
Q: Are the vacant buildings in the Crossing going to be mixed use?
A: We are not certain as to the usage; they are owned by housing authority and will be turned over to Carillion soon
Q: Is the Crossing part of the downtown zoning?
A: No.
Q: Is the entire Crossing considered to be brownfields?
A: All of the buildings/sites between Riverside and Walnut are brownfields.
Q: What are the stakeholders involved in the Crossing?
A: The railroad, Carillion and the city. Almost no others remain in the area.
Q: Will the old passenger station ever be used again for that purpose?
A: No, it is currently only a coal route. Any passenger trains would go by the Hotel Roanoke Winston Link Museum route.
Q: What is the impact of all the new construction on parking in the downtown market area?
A: The City is looking into going back to metered parking. Also the Star Trolley Line will be put in place to provide further public transportation connecting all three of the focus areas.
